Let’s face it. We all get stressed with things in life. Right now I’m driving an hour and a half to work since taking a new job. It can be very stressful – not to mention boring – at times. Worrying is my biggest stressor.
Be sure to answer the question at the bottom! I want to hear your thoughts.
Take a Deep Breath
When feeling overwhelmed, we tend to forget to breathe. Most of the time we hold our breath and think the stress will go away. This causes more stress because it cuts off oxygen to the brain. It’s natural, but next time try to be conscious of your breathing when the stress sets in.
Talk To a Friend or Family Member
Sometimes talking to a friend or family member can help relieve stress. The fact that they can encourage, give advice, and lift our spirits is calming. There is just something about getting advice from a wise person in your life that can change how you look at the situation.
Just a note that you need to also be careful with this tip. This could also have a negative effect on you if the person makes you feel more worried or stressed about the situation. Go to someone who will encourage you.
Go Somewhere Else
Do this right now! Pull up Google maps and search for something fun to do around the area. It will work even better if you get to do some physical activity to relieve some of the stress built up inside of you. This is a great way to get things off your mind if it’s something you can afford to put off. This could be as simple as going for a walk or heading to a movie. The awesome thing is that you get to decide!
Face It Head On
Why not take the stress head on? Find out what the cause of it is and figure out how to combat it. Maybe it’s a project that’s been looming over you for a long time. GET IT DONE! Seriously! Think of the relief you will feel when it is finished. You can keep building a foundation of motivation every time you complete something that gets you closer to your goal.
Create a Step by Step Schedule
Beat stress by creating a schedule. When you have a step by step plan, you can tackle the big plan in smaller steps. It will feel great to accomplish the smaller steps knowing it is contributing to the bigger picture. Create a list and prioritize it from there. Making a list will sometimes help you make better decisions since you are taking more time to think about the process.
Relax
Go find a place in your apartment or house to relax. Somewhere you can close your eyes and clear your mind. It’s great to reset your mind and get away from what’s going on around you. What are you waiting for? Go grab a nice cup of hot tea, and relax!
Deal With It Better Next Time
If there is recurring stress in your life, find a better way to handle it next time. That way it’s no longer an issue because you’ve learned to deal with it before. Sometimes we get stuck in the trap of being stressed out over the same thing again and again.
